Ethical Trade Executive - Monitoring

Role Title : Ethical Trade Executive (India & Sri Lanka)
Reports to: - Ethical Trade Manager
Location: Tamil Nadu

Role Purpose Assesses and seeks ways to improve the performance of supply chains and supply chain relationships in India and Sri Lanka with reference to the Code of Conduct for suppliers.

Responsibilities/
Key Tasks • Contributes to the implementation of the Ethical Strategy for its suppliers and factories in India and Sri Lanka in consultation with the ETM
• Ensures the company’s ethical trading requirements are clearly communicated throughout the supply base
• Raises awareness about the importance of ethical trading and how to approach it.
• Contributes to the on-going development of the company’s Ethical Trading Strategy, providing insight, advice and solutions direct from the supply base
• Contributes to new factory approval process in India and Sri Lanka as required by the ETM, including managing first contact communication with factories and suppliers, liaising with ETM on scheduling audits, processing documentation, and ensuring that factory audits are carried out in a timely manner.
• Remediation of Code non-compliances with factories and suppliers. Advising ETM on suitability for re-audits and next steps.
• Reviews audit reports for quality, accuracy and consistency.
• Post audit reviews – reviews evidences submitted by suppliers after an audit and follows up on the process.
• Provides support to suppliers, factories and workers to support them through the approval process adhering to underlying values of the company
• Engages with suppliers and factories to build relationships that enable sharing best practices and improvements.
• Manages stakeholder relationships as required by ETM / SETM.
• Develops and maintain relationships with local and regional stakeholders including industry associations, trade unions, NGOs and relevant government bodies and liaise with them to identify emerging issues
• Proactively reports on risks to the business.
• Represents the business in meetings and forums as required.
• Contributes as instructed by ETM to projects aimed at improving worker welfare as required
• Provides the business with information regarding ethical trading in the region, including case studies and information relating to NGO, media campaigns and other ad-hoc requests
• Engages in ET Projects as required.
• Actively support build database as and when necessary.

Knowledge & Experience Complexity & Creativity Judgements & Decisions
• Experience in CR and ET and the factory environment
• Factory audit and remediation processes (e.g. SMETA, SA8000 advanced)
• Ability to review reports Technical / administrative review
• Excellent organisation/communication skills
• A self starter who is results driven in a fast paced environment
• The ability to build excellent relationships with key stakeholders & across the business
• IT literate (database, spreadsheets) • Able to cope with the complexity of suppliers, factories.
• Able to cope with the diversity of cultures across the ET Field Team
• Appreciates the bigger picture of the audit programme and its link into as a business
• Seeks opportunities for improvement / change
• Finds ways to drive worker welfare while maintaining operational continuity • Manages the trade-offs involved in the ethical trade programme of a global retailer
• Acts as the interface between supplier, factory, worker, buyer and other stakeholders to support the business.
• Acts with integrity and honesty, and aligned with ABF’s ABC policy.
• Able to make decisions where situations are not black-and-white, deals with ambiguity.
Operational Responsibility
• Ensures integrity of audit management system and database as relevant to countries in scope
• Ensures availability of ethically approved factories to relevant to countries in scope Contacts & Communication
• Ethical Trade Team members in India
• Database team.
• With the CS team as advised by the ETM / SETM Other
• Ambassador for the Brand
• Conducts training sessions for suppliers, workers and factories as required
• Empathetic style that connects with vulnerable workers
• Negotiates strongly
• Comfortable to maintain point of view in potentially contentious discussions with supply chain actors
