Art Director

Purpose of role:
Art Direction and shoot planning for Home, Fashion and Still Life editorial content in location and studio. Working closely with the Marketing, Product Business Partners and Creative Team to conceive photo shoots that ensure the brand aesthetic is being successfully translated on all touch points, on time and within budget constraints.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Produce clear creative decks to communicate shoot plans.
  • Ability to brief Photographers and Stylists and have an expert eye for detail.
  • Edit selects and manage post production critical paths.
  • Art Directing for product photo shoots for social and web content, edit selects and manage mark-ups and retouching.
  • Work with the Senior Creative to develop the Primark visual brand identity ensuring this is central to all creative projects.
  • Have a thorough understanding of latest Womens, Mens, Kids fashion and photographic trends.
  • Collaboration with colleagues across Primark on understanding the views of the customer and representing our Brand.
  • Liaise with Merchandising to ensure products are scheduled and shot efficiently and on time. Experience of working within a creative studio and delivering to schedule.
  • Ensure set budgets are adhered to within the creative scope.
  • Partnering with design teams to understand the key looks and trends for the season enabling us to build amazing campaigns.
  • Bring new and original ideas about pushing the brand forward while setting the bar higher.
  • Create an image bank which could be utilised by all parts of the business.
  • Provide support & assistance to the Head of Creative.
  • Work closely with the social media team to develop creative strategies and meet the needs specific to the online space.
  • Help develop and define the creative primarily for Homewares and still life editorial content.
  • Ensure all photography content is relevant and appropriate in all the different regions in which Primark operates.
  • Ensure content is appropriate for its end use with a focus on web first where necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to brand guidelines in the delivery of creative.
  • Identify the best creative talent to work with Primark.
  • Recognised for generating innovating ideas.
  • Up-to-date knowledge in Internet, Mobile and Digital Media, and have a deep understanding of the opportunities as well as the concerns for Creative in a digital age.
  • Ability to make tough decisions in creative environment.
  • Develop innovative creative approaches utilising graphical and animation elements with a focus on web/social first content.
Key Interactions and engagement as part of role:
  • Work alongside the in-house studio team to develop new approaches and build on our creative capabilities.
  • Work closely with the marketing and social media team to understand their requirements and develop strategies to support this.
  • Liaise with creative team to ensure that all photography sits back to our brand guidelines and overarching creative look and feel.
  • The ability to negotiate desired outcomes with peers and partners, whilst maintaining close working relationship
Essential knowledge, education, skills and experience:
  • A passion for photography, fashion and social media.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative suite.
  • An eye for composition and an ability to communicate creative ideas.
  • Ability to intrepret fashion trends and translate them into commercial creative for Primark.
  • A proven track record within a fashion environment with a portfolio displaying relevant work.
  • Innnovate & creative blended with common sense & commerciality.
  • Energetic & driven individual with a strong record of driving collaboration, communication, and innovation.
  • At least 12 months experience in Fashion Retail (specifically Homewares and still life).
  • Competition and industry aware.
  • Maintain an excellent brand and competitor knowledge.
  • A strong creative and structured approach.
  • Proven track record of working within a diverse team in a multi-site environment.
  • Willing to travel and enjoys travelling for work.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment/ “can do” attitude.
  • Strong graphic design and video editing skills.
  • Experience of working in a web first environment with a focus on content for the online space. In depth knowledge of the online space.

  • Highly organised, detail-oriented, possessing the ability to effectively prioritise projects and deliverables whilst meeting deadlines set by management.
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills, ability to multi-task, plan and prioritise work schedule for self and team and work within agreed timescales.
  • Excellent attention to detail and an ability to analyse and interrogate high volumes of data as well as demonstrating an ability to focus on higher level overview.
  • Proven ability in managing sensitive matters whilst ensuring all Primark information remains confidential to the business.
  • Be a collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal/communication skills, while demonstrating high levels of emotional intelligence and possess the ability to push back with professionalism. Proven ability in developing effective working relationships across all levels of the organisation.
  • Operates with a high level of integrity, diplomacy, tact and professionalism.
  • Effective and persuasive presentation skills, including the ability to present complex information in an understandable manner to all areas of the business.
  • Ability to lead, influence and coach others.
  • Sound judgement, unquestionable ethics and integrity with high degree of transparency and trust.
