Compliance Specialist

Role: Compliance Specialist
Purpose of role: As a Compliance Specialist you will work with relevant functional teams across the Primark business. You will be an integral part of the team responsible for identifying and mitigating risk of data breaches and other compliance risks while educating business colleagues on the importance of compliance. As part of the Primark Global Legal Team you will be joining a fast paced, commercial environment, with the opportunity to work with key stakeholders within the Primark business.

Location:Arthur Ryan House, Dublin/Primark House, Reading
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the development, delivery and maintenance of the ongoing compliance programme
  • Act as an SME focal point for information requests from functions and regions
  • Review policies and procedures
  • Conduct risk assessments and report on findings
  • Maintain requirements for compliance with data protection laws and support senior management in defining actions to support compliance
  • Manage guidance documentation and related notices and coordinate updates
  • Prepare and deliver communications and coordinate programme updates
  • Support key data protection processes for breach management and data subject access requests
  • Assess projects for GDPR risks, building in data privacy considerations for projects that process personal data
  • Supporting the completion of Data Privacy Impact Assessments for projects with significant personal data elements
  • Identify and support the resolution of risks and issues as they arise
  • Promote awareness across the business of GDPR compliance obligations and advise on procedures and policies
  • Proactively look at core causes of data breaches and work with the business to drive process improvement
  • Monitor and understand key trends and issues both internally and externally, and identify opportunities for improvement in processes
  • Support the supervision and development of the team’s overall responsibilities, ensuring that the team meets requirements and deadlines relating to ongoing compliance activities.

Essential knowledge, skills and experience:
  • Compliance professional with at least 3-5 years’ experience in a compliance and/or legal setting
  • Significant knowledge of data protection concepts, principles, regulation and legislation, specifically including in-depth understanding of the General Data Protection Regulation and Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate & influence effectively verbally and in writing across all levels as required
  • Working within a client-focused environment
  • Proven ability to make sound judgement calls particularly relating to issues requiring escalation
  • Self-motivated and positive approach to deliver high quality work and meet deadlines
  • Proactive approach to seeking information and identify solutions
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work under pressure
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Attention to detail combined with the ability to overview processes

  • Excellent attention to detail and an ability to analyse and interrogate complex or large amounts of information while demonstrating an ability to focus on and convey important matters.

  • Adept at building relationships and influencing at all levels
  • Be a collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal/communication skills, while demonstrating high levels of emotional intelligence and possess the ability to push back with professionalism
  • High emotional intelligence and operates with a high level of integrity, diplomacy, tact and professionalism
  • Effective and persuasive presentation skills, including the ability to present complex information in an understandable manner to all areas of the business
  • Sound judgement, unquestionable ethics and with high degree of transparency and trust
