Role: Head of Compliance
Purpose of role: To lead the Primark Compliance team with a commercial and proactive focus, ensuring Primark’s products are compliant with the regulatory requirements in our trading countries

Product and Process
- Under the leadership of the Quality Director, create & deliver a compliance strategy, aligned to the quality strategy that ensures Primark is legally compliant in all trading countries and enables our future needs.
- Implement agreed compliance processes in line with Primark's quality strategy.
- Identify and share product risk by market with a commercial & reputational focus providing useful insights and recommendations.
- Support the business requirements for new markets, highlighting issues by product type and ensuring commercial and proactive solutions to mitigate risk
- Using a commercial approach develop and establish best practise for compliance in partnership with the QA team and with our global partners.
- Lead the Product Incident Group to deliver a clear efficient management of any serious business compliance/quality issues, ensuring that risk mitigations are in place and that reoccurrences are prevented.
- Working in partnership with the QA teams ensure the departmental QA manuals are updated in accordance with business requirements
- Through your team, review and approve all packaging and brand manuals to ensure conformance to Product Compliance.
- Provide the business with commercial and proactive problem solving of potential compliance issues that drives an approach of continuous improvement from our teams and suppliers
- Provide the business with an awareness of the compliance regulations within emerging / existing markets and product types and make recommendations as to the direction of travel.
- Identifies global compliance trends to support training needs and to leverage possible risk within Primark (Rapex, CPC, global stake holders).
- Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with relevant local authorities, legal teams and government organisations.
- Working closely with key internal stakeholders such as customer services, legal & retail teams to create a more aligned approach to issue management & resolution in each of our markets.
- Oversee the design & delivery of a robust quality and compliance training programme for the buying and quality teams to support the business both that is relevant for all product categorises and trading markets.
- Using your internal and external network to raise the profile of compliance across Primark and its importance of securing our compliant trading
- Ensure day to day management of portal compliance flows well to ensure business continuity.
- Lead and manage the implementation of a new Portal system as required to meet business needs including liaising with all key stakeholders
- Develop, cost and implement a formal due diligence program, engaging with all key stakeholders and ensuring supporting resource is in place
- Use expertise and business data to support on supplier and product risk analysis, ensuring business is aware of the true cost (not just financial) of non-compliance
- Support quarterly B&M reviews.
- An ability to maintain a detailed working knowledge of competitor activity and relevant market research through regular monitoring and networking.
Suppliers and Service Provider
- Be the key representative for Compliance within Primark's supply base
- Management of all 3rd party compliance service providers ensuring the correct level of support and a global way of working, including a consistent review process
- Deliver a robust compliance Supplier training academy, ensuring their growth and resilience from a compliance/quality point of view
- Work with key stakeholders Sourcing & Quality to drive supplier improvement and to ensure key suppliers deliver more value & service to Primark
- Work in partnership with CSR team on requirements ensuring compliance with Primark’s quality standards and Primark RSL & MRSL
- Ensure regular updates to the supply base on Compliance status and requirements
- Lead the compliance team in their interaction with suppliers to ensure issues and queries are resolved efficiently and clearly.
- Make the business aware of any issues arising from Compliance interaction with suppliers to ensure a global team approach to issue resolution.
- Excellent attention to detail and an ability to analyse and interrogate high volumes of data as well as demonstrating an ability to focus on higher level overview.
- Proven ability in managing sensitive matters whilst ensuring all Primark information remains confidential to the business.
- Maintain regular communication with peer group to ensure consistent ways of working
- Build strong relationships across the quality and sourcing teams to enable more informed decision making
- Proven ability to influence Heads of and Directors of Primark with their decision making
- Coach and up-skill the compliance and the wider quality teams as required
- Manage the compliance team across all locations to support the business compliance requirements
- Develop own capability by using resources available and development plans (global partners and 3rd parties)
- Continue to build external and internal networks to strengthen relationships and enhance decision making
- Coaches others to identify their skills, abilities and development areas
- Conducts open discussions with direct reports about their strengths and development areas, facilitating an understanding of performance expectation and the creation and delivery of formal development plans
- Experience in working in a multicultural company and supporting & leading global teams.
