Primark spend over £240m on running our stores from a facilities, utilities and retail operations perspective across >390 stores and 15m sq. ft of sales space, with an additional £300m CAPEX spent on opening new stores and retrofitting existing ones.
This role is accountable to create, develop and execute effective strategies to maximise commercial, sustainability and operational benefits from these categories of spend whilst minimising risk.
This role will report to the Business Partner Lead for Store Development and Retail Operations and be a member of the Procurement Leadership Team (PLT).

Business Partnering
  • As part of the Cost and Value realisation programme, identify opportunities for cost improvement across all value levers, work with stakeholders to get buy-in to deliver and execute
  • Accountable for business partnering with all functions in scope directly and through leading a team of business partners, advisors and coordinators to build effective and constructive relationships
  • Develop Category plans with the business for all categories in scope
  • Through these strategies ensure that we have right suppliers in place that deliver the right quality at the right price
  • Identify risks to Primark, mitigate by sourcing alternative suppliers or supply models
  • Bring market best practice to Primark through effective networking, industry bodies and research
  • Secure a seat on the respective LT’s for all categories in scope
  • Champion Primark Cares and use our GNFR supplier base to support reaching our commitments across People, Planet and Product targets
  • Establish strong relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring business alignment on critical objectives
  • Ensure business stakeholders including finance are part of decision making and support value capture.
  • Define, embed and appraise Supplier Relationship Management strategy for the category – ensure supplier segmentation is followed
  • Manage suppliers through the contract lifecycle, ensure awareness of contract expiry dates in advance to develop effective strategies to renew, extend or move
  • Anticipate future growth plans of the business and ensure that the category plans can support
  • Work closely with ESET throughout the sourcing lifecycle and during business as usual, to ensure Primark have a compliant supply base
  • Work with New Markets and ensure category plans consider store roll expansion programme
  • Take a leadership role in shaping future of the Procurement function

Compliance and Governance
  • Negotiate contracts with new/existing suppliers, ensure terms achieve benefit to the organisation and govern relationships
  • Champion Procurement policy, input to maintain its business relevance and work to support adherence
  • Identify and advise internal customers of commercial risks supply assurance issues and work to mitigate risk to protect Primark.
  • Contractual / Operational
  • Ensure Primark has appropriate commercial structures in our agreements with suppliers
  • Build effective and strong relationship with the legal team & other key support functions including tax, internal audit and controls
  • Ensure compliance to contract approval policy via legal review and appropriate GOA for contracts/SOW’s
  • Put in place contracts, framework and legal agreements for all suppliers as required
  • Support the business to establish frameworks and ensure purchase orders in place per Procurement policy
  • Actively champion sustainability and be conscious of CSR Policy.
  • Establish a robust supplier base that delivers the required quality, cost and service
  • Use tools to maximise efficiency and transparency of sourcing and commercial negotiations e.g. eRFX, auctions.
  • Maintain a view of category spend, supplier data, market intelligence and best practice, report on it regularly
  • Build performance management culture within the team and regularly report on progress
  • Ensure direct reports have objectives and active personal development plans
  • Complexity – Internal, Spend and Supply Market
  • Partner with high level complexity network of Head of and Director level Primark stakeholders
  • Influence spend under management, forge close relationships with business
  • Effectively manage all c£120m spend across categories of Retail Operations, Security and EHS
  • Establish effective relationships with senior supplier personnel
  • Provide coaching and leadership for the wider Procurement team to promote continuous development

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • 5+ years’ experience in a senior Procurement Team role
  • Subject matter expertise and market knowledge Retail operations, Security and EHS preferably in a multinational retail environment
  • People leader with experience of leading local and remote teams, and leading with and without authority
  • Demonstrated success in delivering complex multi-year strategies ensuring competitive commercial advantage
  • Expert ability to forge close business relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Significant experience of working within fast-paced/matrixed organisations
  • Proven track record of developing strategic partnerships with key suppliers
  • Ability to meet deadlines and reports on progress and performance
  • Expert knowledge of financial, legal contract negotiations, strong awareness of ethical sourcing and corporate social responsibility issues
