Purpose of role:
Engages with Primark / ABF internal and external stakeholders to assist Primark in achieving its Primark Cares Carbon Targets, and commitment to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Fashion Charter, in matters relating to program development data collecting, analysis, reporting, and training

Reports to: Environmental Sustainability Manager, Shanghai, China.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identifies existing energy efficiency initiatives and renewable energy programs in the region.
  • Identifies opportunities for a scalable solution to decarbonising the energy consumption of facilities.
  • Engages with supply chain to ensure environmental requirements are delivered and communicated
  • Engages with supply chain to align strategies and share best practices
  • Participates in the development and delivery of training programs, on energy, carbon, and climate change topics, to advance the implementation of the programme across the supply chain.
Internal engagementExternal stakeholder engagement
  • Can be relied on as an ambassador of the Primark Brand
  • Works as an intermediary between nominated third parties and Primark Suppliers/Factories on regional and local energy projects, including acting as Primark’s lead contact in multi-brand energy initiatives in the region.
  • Actively supports the Environmental Manager to develop and maintain relationships with local and regional stakeholders
  • Represents Primark in external meetings and working groups, such as the UNFCCC.
Reporting & Data
  • Reports on supplier communications, site visits, audits and case studies
  • Regularly collates and analyses data on carbon and climate change initiatives across the regional supply chain for the purpose of reporting, including CDP, TCFD and the annual sustainability report.
  • Regularly reports on progress of energy initiatives in the region, including energy savings, and associated reduction in Greenhouse Gases. Prepares case studies as appropriate.
  • Ensures security of data and integrity of information used and shared
Knowledge & Experience
  • Project Management experience, dealing with third parties, monitoring programmes and deliverables.
  • Knowledge of energy auditing, energy consumption forecasting and energy modelling through capital and life cycle cost / benefit analysis.
  • Experience with decarbonization and emissions reduction strategies
  • Knowledge of existing renewable energy alternatives to fossil fuels.
  • Communication, interpersonal & organisational skills
  • Awareness of Higg FEM
  • Fluent in English

  • Programme development – taking lessons learned from small scale projects to develop scalable solutions to influence the broader supply chain.
  • Able to cope with the complexity of Primark’s suppliers, factories and global department
  • Able to cope with the diversity of cultures across the Primark ET Field Team
  • Appreciates the bigger picture of the environmental programme and its link into Primark as a business
Judgements & Decisions
  • Evaluates and validates programs for energy efficiency and renewable energy opportunities
  • Interprets reporting data on environmental performance received from facilities with the Primark Supply Chain
  • Manages the trade-offs involved in the environmental sustainability programme of a global retailer

  • Third parties: including but not limited to suppliers, manufacturers, and service providers
  • Represents Primark at external working groups (UNFCCC and others) to work towards a reduction in carbon footprint and a goal of sectoral wide systemic impact on the entire supply chain.
  • A passionate self-starter who is results driven in a fast-paced environment
  • IT literate (database, spreadsheets)
