Meet Mirela. Warehouse Colleague.

Islip Warehouse

As a Warehouse Colleague, I do a whole range of operations – from warehouse picking to admin. It entirely depends what I'm needed for on the day. Before this, I was in sales for the stock market. A few months of hard work there led to my promotion to Manager on the sales team. The next year, I got the position of Platform Manager in trading. Then, after I had a baby, I took some time out. It was great to get back to work after that, and Primark works so well around parenting. They’ve got three shifts: morning, afternoon, and night. So, whatever you need, you can just talk with them and find a solution that’s right for you.

Dreams coming true

I started here in May and I've just been accepted onto the Aspire Programme, which is six months of training for the position of Manager. It’s been the highlight of my time here and I’m so excited to get started. I’ll be shown how to be a Manager, from A to Z. I'm going to be taught on all departments and at the end, I will be placed where I am most needed. I will have a group of people to manage, making sure they reach their targets and helping to solve any problems.

It’s all about teamwork here. You can’t expect to get to a higher level without your team. It’s about being a Manager, but still showing that you’re human. I'm looking forward to being challenged, to being put into the position where I have to find solutions and be active. I want to do well in whatever I do here.

Enjoying time together

The social side of Primark is brilliant. We have gatherings down the pub, parties for Christmas, you name it. We’re like a family and we do things together. Even in the building, there are plenty of ways people can spend time as a team. We can play pool in the café or use the gym, it’s all catered around us. And the building is the size of four football pitches – that’s at least ten minutes from one end to the other on foot. It's such a nice building and everything’s professionally laid out.

Flexibility from day one

The hours are just what I need, I get great flexibility. Even when I’d just started as an agency colleague, I felt like I was in a stable position – the money was good and you were pretty much guaranteed to be able to choose your hours and get the ones you wanted. 90% of the time it’s completely buzzing in here, we’re like bees. We know what we have to do and it’s very fast-paced.

I'm one of the Shift Managers on a rotating day shift. I directly manage nine Team Managers and anything upwards of 150 colleagues.
