Meet Nick. Merchandiser.
I really enjoy working at Primark, the fast-paced environment keeps you on your toes and no two days are the same. Before I started here, I did a Business Economics degree, which definitely helped me relate to and understand Primark’s business model – driving high volumes with affordable pricing. One of my favourite aspects of my role is working with the product, it’s vital you have an interest in fashion to succeed in the job.
An international opportunity
As a team, we often visit our stores and the competition. It’s really important to keep up to date with what’s going on with the high street. As we trade in markets all over Europe, it’s also vital that we visit our European stores to understand the shopping environment and to make sure we are catering for our customers in the best way possible.
Mutual respect is everything
The people are the best part of working at Primark. From Line Managers to Directors, everyone is really supportive and you get a lot of opportunity for development. You're working with people every day who you respect and look up to. You admire what they've achieved in their careers, which helps motivate everyone.
There is a great social side too. We have big events, like the Christmas party. And as a department, we have team days out, which are great for getting to know people you don’t work with directly.
Primark’s a really good place to come. Everybody who works here has passion for the job.
Climbing the ranks
I started at Primark in 2013 as a Trainee Merchandiser on Men’s T-shirts. As this is such a fast-paced department, I gained experience quickly, massively helping my development. I was given extra responsibility early on, which again, provided me with a good platform to develop as I was presenting in trade and sign-off meetings to Directors. The highlight so far, was being promoted to Merchandiser – I am now responsible for 8 departments on Men’s Accessories, an opportunity which might not have been available anywhere else.
