Talent & Development Manager

This role is part of the Talent and Development Leadership Team and will play a critical role in helping to drive a progressive Talent and Development strategy in support of real business priorities.

You will have the responsibility for leading a team to deliver on an ambitious agenda across talent, performance and learning. You’ll be generous with your knowledge and time and enjoy seeing others grow from your guidance, coaching and mentoring along the way.

In this role you will be responsible for the performance and talent management strategy globally across our retail markets and office-based colleagues. You will deliver on a roadmap to transform our performance culture and drive internal careers through a variety of initiatives and learning solutions. You will identify opportunities to enable the Primark 2030 strategic priorities through development of our people.

You will work in partnership with senior stakeholders and business partners to support the learning agenda for our Retail and office-based colleagues globally. You’ll be accountable for delivering solutions from onboarding to career pathways to performance management, with the aim of creating an engaging and memorable, end to end colleague learning experience.

What You’ll Do:
In your role, you’ll collaborate with different people across a range of skillsets. Here’s a flavour of your day-to-day:

Performance Management
  • Lead the annual performance review process globally across retail and office based colleagues driving continuous improvement in process, tools, and capability.
  • Evolve the performance management cycle and process aligning requirements with key stakeholders such as Reward and P&C Operations.
  • Integration of the Values & Behaviours to the performance management cycle ensuring the performance management process enables behaviour driven goals aligned with company strategy.
  • Own and continually improve the performance roadmap and strategy with a view to where the business is heading both short and long term, ensuring it aligned with our Talent Management processes.
  • Manage senior stakeholder relationships and business partner relationships to drive change to our performance process whilst delivering on immediate priorities to support the business.
  • Partner and manage relationships within our technology and P&C operations function to deliver digital solutions to streamline the performance process with a focus on data outputs and data analysis.
  • Utilise performance based data to inform the learning agenda and address capability gaps.

Learning and Development
  • Partner with Retail and business stakeholders to build learning programs to drive internal talent development.
  • Lead the learning strategy for Retail ensuring that all colleagues can access learning to grow their own careers.
  • Lead the Global Retail L&D Network, partnering with market based L&D Managers to agree priorities and understand business wide Learning and Development needs.
  • Collaborate with and manage stakeholder relationships to understand performance gaps in relation to key business priorities and lead the creation of learning to improve these.
  • Cultivate a culture of learning and promote development through effective communication and engagement.
  • Partner with the business and learning solutions design team to deliver end to end solution design from envisioning workshops through to creation and delivery of solutions.
  • Significant experience developing solutions for all aspects of capability including technical and behavioural skills within a complex global environment.
  • Lead the delivery of strategic projects in line with agreed roadmap and emerging P&C strategic priorities.
  • Analyse data from quarterly Your Voice colleague surveys to identify areas of priority for colleagues learning, development and careers.

Early Careers
  • Manage the Early Careers team with accountability for the life cycle of our early careers programmes through attraction, recruitment, onboard, development and off board.
  • Enable the development of our Early Careers strategy by identifying the business needs and aligning these to the correct programme entry point. Ensure the design and implementation of new Early Career programmes where required.
  • Drive the business case for Early Careers by demonstrating return on investment and communicating this effectively to business stakeholders. Secure appropriate budget and resource to enable the growth of the Early Careers agenda.

Team Leadership
  • Define and drive the annual Talent & Development roadmap and assign projects to colleagues on the team based on skillset and experience, while also recognising opportunities for stretch projects to develop colleagues.
  • Input, guide and advise on projects, enabling colleagues to deliver high quality programmes and projects, within agreed timeframes, which meet stakeholders needs. Manage stakeholders where required.
  • Provide regular and timely feedback to colleagues to celebrate successes and recognise opportunities for growth and development. Regularly seek feedback from team.
  • Understand team development areas and develop, coach and empower others so they can grow their skills, behaviours and in their roles.
  • Create an environment that fosters high engagement and collaboration in the team, and where the team are confident to challenge and give feedback to each other.

  • Significant experience leading, coaching and developing a team of learning and talent professionals.
  • Advanced consulting and performance support experience with the ability to translate business needs and priorities into deliverable learning objectives.
  • Customer-centric with a seasoned ability to confidently communicate with all levels of leadership.
  • Advanced program and change management skills required to implement/execute multiple high-priority, high-visibility projects on time and within budget.
  • Advanced proficiency in presenting and facilitating to internal/external groups with varying audience sizes and leadership levels.
  • Experience of a geographically and cultural diverse employee base, experience in working with global teams and understanding cultural sensitivities is critical.
  • Experience of managing a T&D budget ensuring value creating and minimise cost mindset.
