What You’ll Do as a Commercial Finance Manager - International
Working with leadership and key stakeholders, the Commercial Finance Manager – International provides financial support that is commercially sound to key strategic and operational areas of the Retail and International Expansion functions. The expectation is that this individual would be agile in providing support across initiatives as and when needed. This role requires a broad understanding of the wider Primark business strategy and a deep understanding of International Expansion growth pillar in driving this strategy. A successful candidate will draw on internal knowledge but also use external sources and comparatives to help them form views and approach to complex business questions.

In your role, you’ll collaborate with different people across a range of skillsets. Here’s a flavour of your day-to-day:
  • Provide strategic direction and act as a lead financial partner to the Retail and International expansion teams on key commercial initiatives.
  • Provide a comprehensive monthly financial update, analysing the latest trading and financial performance, including insights on areas for improvement in both trade and operating costs.
  • Provide robust support, guidance and education to the business through insights and analysis, flagging any potential risks or opportunities to enable the leadership team to take any necessary action.
  • Support the development of financial KPIs to assess the success of both the business and the financial strategy.
  • Conduct ongoing analysis of trading and financial performance, providing comprehensive insights to the leadership team to improve the profitability of our stores.
  • Work collaboratively with the global team on the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes and ensure local plans are aligned to overall group financial plans.
  • Construct compelling pieces of financial analyses, outlining issues, opportunities and solutions, overseeing development & ensuring output is insightful & actionable.
  • Assess new investment opportunities and identify potential scope to support our expansion and optimisation plans.
  • Identify new ideas, applying an innovative, value-add approach to business partnering activities.
  • Focus on head-up, forward looking activities to help maximise opportunity to create value.
  • Prioritise key activities and drive delivery through collaboration across multiple teams in the business, both within and outside of the FP&A space.
  • Collaborate with key operational and programme leads to define and refresh roadmaps for core initiatives of the business.
  • Build effective communication channels with business leaders and stakeholders. Provide visibility on the International Expansion strategy and roadmap, the status of projects and opportunities to mitigate risks.
  • Work closely with the FP&A and Business Partnering teams to ensure alignment to group strategic priorities
  • Act as key Finance partner for the Franchise partner’s finance team.
  • Take lead role in co-ordinating various Primark finance streams to ensure seamless collaboration and efficiency across the teams, driving the Franchise model success and achieving business goals.
  • Collaborate and influence both the Franchise partner’s finance stakeholders and the Primark finance function to identify and develop best practice processes.
  • Ensure any relevant new or changing Primark policies and procedures are shared with the Franchise partner and their suite of policies are amended as required.
  • Monitor, and support, the Franchise partners’ compliance to required policies and processes.
  • Work collaboratively to construct compelling pieces of analysis, outlining issues, opportunities and solutions overseeing development & ensuring output is insightful & actionable


What You’ll Bring

  • Qualified accountant and/or MBA with 5+ years progressive experience working in a strategic or finance, commercially focused role, in a consulting practice or industry.
  • High level of commercial and financial acumen with the ability to formulate and clearly communicate analysis, insight and recommendations for future strategies
  • Demonstrates curiosity and knowledge when it comes to competitors and external market trends with the ability to communicate learnings clearly to key stakeholders
  • Has worked in a fast-paced finance team, preferably in retail/FMCG
  • Is comfortable in designing investment appraisal and governance processes to support complex long term strategic initiatives
  • Action orientated with the ability to identify and drive opportunities for growth, working cross functionally, not just identifying a problem or solution but driving the change
  • Strong work ethic and very comfortable working in an ‘unstructured’, consultative setting, with a focus on value creation
  • Ability to partner with the business across all levels of the organisation, supporting the development of strategy, delivery and reporting of results.
  • Ability to structure business case governance on a case-by-case basis depending on what level of rigour is required.
  • Strong communication skills. Ability to structure and present a compelling story, bringing stakeholders on the ‘journey’.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen with the ability to quickly assimilate information, assess options and communicate these clearly.
  • Ability to see the bigger picture in the context of business growth, ensuring that all activities are commercially orientated first and foremost.
  • Strong organisational, planning and delegation skills and ability to manage multiple deliverables within deadlines.
  • Self-Motivated: Self-motivated with the ability to be comfortable in an agile role.
  • Strategic Thinking: Is a clear strategic thinker and very comfortable working in this setting.
  • Relationships & Influence: Adept and comfortable in building relationships at all levels of the business with the ability to influence across the organisation.
  • Decision Making: Ability to formulate own opinions through financial analysis and multiple source insights which in turn supports decision making and drives outcomes.
