What You’ll Do as Site Reliability Manager
In your role, you’ll collaborate with different people across a range of skillsets. Here’s a flavour of your day-to-day:
- Lead Build & Run Operations: Own the design, development, testing, release, and production deployment of complex digital engineering solutions, ensuring alignment with Primark Ways of Working and standards.
- Drive Reliability & Performance: Define and enforce software quality, security, and compliance standards to improve operational metrics such as MTTR, Change Failure Rate, deployment lead time, and reduce technical debt.
- Manage Engineering Demand & Capacity: Act as the escalation point for product and delivery teams, oversee backlog prioritization (including defects, tech debt, and risk), and ensure robust definitions of “Ready” and “Done.”
- Govern Third-Party & Cost Management: Oversee vendor performance, contracts, and commercials while optimizing engineering costs and leveraging shared technology services for consistency and efficiency.
- Foster a Culture of Stability & Continuous Improvement: Promote collaboration, automation, and accountability across teams, embedding cyber security, data protection, and accessibility into all processes and products.
- Enable Strategic Delivery & Innovation: Partner with Product Managers to deliver roadmaps, set ambitious OKRs, monitor operational health through proactive alerting, and seek external trends and technologies to drive innovation.

What You’ll Bring
Here at Primark, we want everyone to feel valued – so please bring your authentic self to work, of course with some other key experience and abilities for this role in particular:
- Extensive Delivery Expertise: 10+ years in software engineering or IT transformation at enterprise scale, ideally in an agile-at-scale environment, with proven success in executing change across people, process, and technology.
- Leadership & Stakeholder Management: Strong ability to lead diverse teams, inspire inclusive culture, and manage senior business stakeholder relationships; excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
- Technical & Architectural Knowledge: Familiarity with MACH architecture, SaaS, PaaS, and modern engineering practices; understanding of technical product development principles and agile delivery frameworks.
- Strategic & Visionary Thinking: Ability to scan emerging technologies, leverage innovation to create business value, and blend technical, operational, and commercial considerations into strategic decision-making.
- Vendor & Partner Management: Experience working with vendors and systems integrators, managing contracts, commercials, and performance to deliver outcomes aligned with business objectives.
- Retail & Technology Insight: Knowledge of retail business and technology landscape, anticipating risks and opportunities, and ensuring seamless integration of technology stacks/interfaces for customers and colleagues.
