Ethical Trade and Environmental Sustainability at Primark

The purpose of this role is to strengthen the measurement, communication and effectiveness of Primark’s Social Impact initiatives and their contribution to Human Rights Due Diligence across the global supply chain through improved Measurement, Evaluation and Learning (MEL), specifically data management practices, processes and analysis.

What You’ll do:

We want you to feel challenged and inspired. Here, you’ll develop your skills across a range of responsibilities:

MEL management of the portfolio of social impact initiatives

  • Improve the rigour and integrity of the MEL activities undertaken by Primark’s Social Impact / Solutions Teams located in key sourcing countries, deploying tailored support as needed against agreed MEL plans. This includes:
  • Ensure Theories of Change (TOC) / Impact Frameworks are up-to-date, and measurement plans reflect agreed focus.
  • Support the development of project KPIS, measurement indicators and MEL tools for data collection and capture plans (quantitative and qualitative).
  • Support regional teams/third parties to manage data collection and provide quality assurance.
  • Lead quality assurance of MEL management processes. Assess their strengths and weaknesses and make recommendations to address weakness.
  • Build regional teams’ MEL capacities and capabilities through direct technical support and guidance.
  • Identify which parts of the portfolio should undergo impact and learning review or assessment.
  • Contribute to the evolution of Primark’s Social Impact MEL strategy.

Data analysis and synthesis of results

  • Lead the analysis of data generated from improved MEL, using data analysis software tools as needed.
  • Develop concise analytical reports and summaries that connect to project theories of change (TOCs) that then feed into more concise reporting for internal and external purposes.
  • Support the synthesis of results across the global portfolio and contribute to sense-making of results to facilitate communication and lesson learning.
  • Pro-actively explore ways to analyse data including the use of A.I. to support more efficient analysis.
  • Collaborate across the ETES team to identify relevant datasets from other sources (including audits) that can contribute to the wider impact narratives.

Reporting and communications

  • Lead and evolve the process for managing data collation for corporate reporting purposes.
  • Support the regional sourcing teams to provide robust data and evidence through guidance and technical trouble shooting as required. Manage central data management folders.
  • Create new reporting formats for internal learning purposes.
  • Develop key learning products to improve internal and external communications.

Strategic facilitation and deepening a learning culture

  • Facilitate a culture of learning through strategic review and reflection with regional and HQ teams, drawing evidence and learning: key insights, impact narratives and lessons learnt.
  • Create workshop material and training content to enable learning based on data and evidence.

Social Impact MEL partnerships and stakeholder engagement

  • Identify and facilitate new partnerships for MEL, including impact measurement organisations (especially within sourcing regions) to help achieve our MEL goals.
  • Drive efforts to engage internal and external stakeholders through showcasing and communicating social impact stories and deliverables.


What you'll bring

We want every person in our organisation to feel like they’re making a key contribution. Here are some of the experiences and skills you’ll need for the role:

  • 5+ years of experience working with teams in the global south (preferably in Asia) to strengthen capacity on social impact data collection, measurement and reporting, covering both quantitative and qualitative data
  • Excellent analytical and research skills, including the ability to process large amounts of information, distribute it appropriately and extract critical analysis from it.
  • Knowledge of leading global best practise and emerging trends in the collection, measurement, management and reporting of social impact data.
  • Experience of measuring social impact using both qualitative and quantitative data and building the data systems to support the measurement and communication of this impact.
  • Experience in promoting organisational learning and cultural change through global implementation and transformation projects in the area of data management.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Ability to support operations and people at a distance.
  • High level of computer proficiency particularly with MS Excel.
  • Degree in a relevant field.
  • Available and willing to travel internationally (context dependent).
  • Strong project management, research, reporting writing and presentation skills.
  • Experience in supporting public reporting.
