Ethical Trade and Environmental Sustainability and Social Impact at Primark

The purpose of this role is to strengthen the measurement, communication and effectiveness of Primark’s Social Impact initiatives and their contribution to Human Rights Due Diligence across the global supply chain through improved Measurement, Evaluation and Learning (MEL), specifically data management practices, processes and analysis.

What You’ll do:
We want you to feel challenged and inspired. Here, you’ll develop your skills across a range of responsibilities:
Thematic strategies and good practice:
  • Contribute to, and in some cases lead, development of thematic strategies across labour right issues including but not limited to; social dialogue, grievance mechanisms, forced labour, gender-based violence, child labour, social protection. This may include:
  • Review and update existing strategies and create new strategies as needed.
  • Research thematic areas to inform strategies and good practice (e.g., summarising and analysing good practice frameworks and regulation, and their relevance to Primark’s HRDD programme).
  • Facilitate the development and management of external partnerships to develop and progress thematic strategies (e.g., identifying partners, drafting terms of reference, project management).
  • Progress Primark’s Human Rights policy agenda through research, advice and input, drafting, and managing internal and external consultations and sign-off.
Stakeholder engagement
  • Establish, lead and support technical thematic working groups to facilitate collaboration across the wider Ethical Trade Team, including teams in sourcing countries.
  • Engage Primark’s Ethical Trade team across HQ and sourcing countries to develop good practice aligned to sourcing priorities, international best practice and the global audit programme.
  • Consult relevant external stakeholders to support development and deployment of the thematic strategies.
  • Represent the HRDD-related work of the team in both internal and external meetings and fora, including onboarding new staff.
Support Strategy Deployment across the Supply Chain and wider business
  • Develop and disseminate best practice across the business through delivering training and guidance directly or through partners.
  • Actively support country teams across the project management cycle to design and deliver effective programmes that support HRDD outcomes, (e.g., development of project approval forms, budget review, contract support, management of external partners
  • Lead aspects of the governance and management of global remediation programmes in support of HRDD, particularly where this relates to the remediation of vulnerable groups.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of activities to inform learning and further development.
  • Actively manage, mitigate and communicate risk across each thematic workplan.
  • Contribute to strategic oversight of thematic programmes as required.
  • Drive efforts to build supplier engagement and ownership.
  • Support the development of the ET team’s knowledge on technical areas.
Reporting, contracting and budget management
Prepare content to support Primark’s internal and external communication and reporting obligations.

What you'll bring

Essential: -
  • Flexible and committed to supporting team goals.
  • Practical experience of the development and implementation of programmes which support continuous improvement in supply chains.
  • Strong knowledge of labour rights issues in global supply chains
  • Technical knowledge and practical experience of good practice across the human rights due diligence. agenda, including remediation in supply chains.
  • Knowledge of the emerging regulatory environment as it pertains to human rights due diligence.
  • Experience of policy development.
  • Experience and knowledge of global supply chain audit standards.
  • Strong project management, research, reporting writing and presentation skills.

Desirable: -
  • Relevant Masters Degree.
  • Experience in supporting public reporting.
  • Experience working in a human rights consultancy or NGO in relevant field.
  • Experience working in countries in the global South.
  • Experience of the development and application of Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL) frameworks.
  • Specialism in thematic key thematic areas across the labour rights agenda.
