What You’ll Do as a Tax Senior Manager – Risk Management
We are continuing to develop our Tax function to support the Primark business as it continues to expand into new territories, new channels and new products.
This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career within an Irish headquartered business where you are a key part of the decision-making process.
Your role is to establish an appropriate risk profile for each of the entities, understanding the nuances of corporate tax risks across the jurisdictions in which we operate, manage active tax audits, oversee remediation plans. You will be expected to provide timely and practical advice on direct tax risk strategy. This will involve working with external local tax advisors, internal stakeholders throughout the business and from the wider finance team, representing Tax at risk forums, meetings with tax authorities and ensuring taxes are considered for any business changes. You will lead and develop a team of specialists.

In your role, you’ll collaborate with different people across a range of skillsets. Here’s a flavour of your day-to-day:

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Build cross functional relationships to understand risks and the impact of these on tax.
  • Provide relevant direct tax advisory support to the business, particularly in relation to specific jurisdictional requirements or tax authority positions.
  • Represent Primark at tax audits with the support of local advisors and manage these to successful conclusion.
  • Identify and lead change from direct tax audit findings, as relevant.
  • Build strong relationships with financial reporting to understand corporate tax risks and influence change in the wider business/finance to ensure any tax risks are addressed.
  • Maintain a direct tax risk matrix for the group, identifying priority actions for implementation and appropriate timelines.
  • Partner with tax management to ensure all material business transactions are considered from a direct tax perspective.
  • Support the corporate tax and transfer pricing compliance team with information from finance/business to enhance compliance and understanding of key risk areas.
  • Maintain register of open tax years as well as supporting with preparation of the group’s Uncertain Tax Provisions.
  • Partner with+ corporate tax and transfer pricing compliance to ensure all information on potential direct tax risks is captured centrally and addressed.
  • Responsible for ensuring the group is prepared for announced audits including partnering with the finance team to ensure accounting information is available in the correct formats e.g. SAF-T
  • Prepare robust files for relevant transactions or high risk areas.
  • Review material transactions and identify improvements and new controls
  • Manage internal audit reviews for tax ensuring the Internal Audit programme is focused on the right risk areas.
  • Ensure stakeholders are regularly updated e.g. shareholder, finance leadership, Directors.
  • Keep up to date and understand the direct tax landscape, specifically identifying risks and opportunities related to retailers.
  • Ensure all relevant legislative requirements are considered for direct tax such as the upcoming UK legislation on Controls over Financial Reporting.
  • Other related ad hoc activities, as required.

What You’ll Bring

  • Tax qualification (AITI).
  • 5+ years’ relevant experience
  • Experience in at least one of the following:
  • Big 4 practice
  • In industry, in a Corporate Tax role
  • Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously is essential
  • Experience in Change Management is desirable
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills are essential
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented, possessing the ability to effectively prioritise projects and deliverables whilst meeting deadlines set by management.
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills, ability to multi-task, plan and prioritise work schedule for self and team and work within agreed timescales.
  • Be a collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal/communication skills, while demonstrating high levels of emotional intelligence and possess the ability to influence with professionalism. Proven ability in developing effective working relationships across all levels of the organisation.
  • Operates with a high level of integrity, diplomacy, tact and professionalism.
  • Effective and persuasive presentation skills, including the ability to present complex information in an understandable manner to all areas of the business.
  • Sound judgement, unquestionable ethics and integrity with high degree of transparency and trust.
