Purpose of the Role
The Financial Accountant – ESG is responsible for supporting the ESG Finance reporting function. You will support with the Finance review and management of the external reporting processes for key Primark ESG reporting. You will also support with the non-financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders. This role will support the ESG Finance team in ensuring Primark is ready for upcoming ESG reporting requirements (regulatory and otherwise), and will be a key support for finance reporting and review processes for finance led Primark ESG reporting to internal and external stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Support Primark teams to ensure that the external and internal reporting of Primark’s metrics and KPIs, across relevant ESG topics, follow defined levels of governance. In doing so, align with the Primark Cares programme and the ABF ESG framework.
• Responsibility for key parts of the annual ESG reporting process to ABF.
• Prepare relevant technical papers and/or internal briefing papers ensuring they are prepared in a consistent manner, in line with Primark guidance and emerging regulations.
• Develop work papers and workbooks, as necessary, with appropriate controls to ensure accurate review and reporting of data points.
• Review of external reporting related to all ESG related information and working with external auditors in this respect.
•Document end-to-end processes and methodologies for ESG reporting data points in line with established best practice guidance.
•Ensure external reporting is in compliance with all relevant standards and corporate responsibility expectations.
•Support the continued establishment of and measurement of progress against formal quantitative and qualitative ESG goals and targets.
• Input into the governance and assurance process of Primark’s formal ESG reporting.
• Work effectively with the Technology and Finance Transformation teams in Primark to develop innovative and efficient ways to support the tracking and reporting of ESG related data, KPIs and metrics.
• Collaborate with Primark Cares, Legal, Finance, Communications, ABF, and others to support Primark’s ESG reporting process.
• Develop an understanding of our existing non-financial and finance processes and system landscape
•Work collaboratively to construct compelling pieces of analysis, outlining issues, opportunities and solutions ensuring output is insightful & actionable.


Skills & Experience
Essential
•Professional accounting qualification with a minimum of 3 years’ post qualified experience.
•Knowledge of external reporting standards and the wider reporting landscape trends, including Non-Financial Reporting Directive/Corporate Sustainable Reporting Directive, Task Force on Climate-related Disclosures, International Sustainability Standards Board etc.
•Good understanding of the foundational finance processes.
•Previous experience in process mapping an advantage.
•Prior experience in ESG and/or non-financial reporting frameworks an advantage.
•Knowledge of business process change, automation and data analytics would be advantageous. E.g., applications such as Automation Anywhere, Alteryx, MS Power Automate etc.
•Excellent attention to detail with an ability to analyse and interrogate high volumes of data as well as demonstrating an ability to focus on higher level overview.
•Self-motivated with excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
•Exceptional planning and organisation skills, ability to multi-task, plan and prioritise work schedule and work within agreed timescales.
•Commercial awareness with the ability to demonstrate a sound knowledge of wider business factors.
•Strong financial and analytical acumen as well as excellent Project Management skills.
•English is essential and another European language would be an advantage.
•Proactive individual, with a strong work ethic.
•Can successfully work in an agile environment with ad-hoc activities.
•Educated to degree level +
•3+ years PQE having worked in finance and/or reporting roles
•Accounting qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent) or other professional qualification an advantage
•Process oriented with a logical mind-set, using reasoning consistently to come to the correct conclusion
•Strong financial and analytical acumen
•Thrive in a fast-paced environment
•Demonstrate initiative with strong work ethic
