Role: Payroll Specialist

Purpose of role: We have a fantastic opportunity for a talented Payroll Specialist to join our expanding Payroll Team. This position provides the opportunity to support our Payroll Lead in the operational delivery of the Payrolls. You’ll need to confidently work to tight deadlines and be an outstanding team player. This role is ideal for someone looking to take their next step with the proven experience you have accumulated.

Reports to: Country Payroll Manager
Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the payroll team in the production of the company’s payrolls
  • Monitor work against deadlines and alert payroll lead to any risks
  • Work with the team to ensure that company and team procedures and policies are followed so that payrolls are delivered accurately
  • Provide cover for team lead including by partnering with other team leads on payroll sign off and other high priority tasks
  • Demonstrate high quality outputs with attention to detail
  • Prepare and upload system files
  • Assist with software fixes and improvements including direct liaison with the supplier and payroll specialists on the team
  • Demonstrate knowledge of processes and Primark rules across the team including year-end, pension rules and obligations, statutory returns and reporting
  • Keep up to date on legislative changes and assist with implementation on the team
  • Help allocate resources to ensure that period and year-end tasks are completed accurately and on time including pension and statutory returns
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships across the team
  • Work cross functionally with other teams where required
  • Help to identify and implement improvements and efficiencies
  • Check and sign complex correspondence and draft replies to external bodies
  • Exercise awareness of team, company and customer priorities
  • Lead by example in holding down a key workload on the team to a high level of accuracy
  • Process payments to HMRC.
  • Payroll/Finance reconciliations.
  • Other duties as may be required


Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • 5+ years payroll experience (or 2+ in payroll with minimum 3 in other industries) is required
  • Detail orientated
  • Ability to lead by example and has detailed knowledge of the payrolls on the team and the rest of the payroll landscape
  • Detailed knowledge of tax regulations including knowledge of statutory and pension returns and year end processes
  • Demonstrable experience of working to deadlines and performing duties under pressure
  • Microsoft Excel knowledge to Intermediate level
  • Ability to see through tasks fully with minimal support ensuring team lead is kept fully informed

  • Is a collaborative team player with good interpersonal/communication skills.
