I’ve always been in ICT and mainly in supply chain

Islip Warehouse
My job is to manage 17 people in the goods in department. We do pick and put-away and sort the products that come from the inbound area. At the moment, I’m running the morning shift on my own, briefing the team first thing and working to achieve our KPIs on a daily basis.
Using my experience
Before coming to Primark, I worked in a large grocery warehouse. I started on the inbound team as a checker, then worked as a Team Leader and then a Supervisor on picking. But my heart was always in inbound and I was lucky enough to go back there as a Supervisor. We used to have around 2,000 pallets coming in every single day. It was very highly pressured. After eight years, I went over to the new security site in Corby as a Manager to help set up their systems. I was there for two years and by then, I was itching to get back to the warehouse.
As soon as I heard about the new Primark depot in Islip, I jumped at the chance. I love Primark I really wanted to be involved. I checked the website constantly for jobs. I had this feeling of excitement. It's completely different to the grocery side, you've got the same foods coming in every day. Here it’s exciting to see the summer range, the winter range, all of it.
An exciting environment
There’s a lot of excitement with the environment I’m in. As soon as you walk in the building, it's completely different to anywhere else. It's colourful, welcoming and I was lucky enough to be one of the first here. I was involved in recruiting colleagues for the first few months. It’s been amazing to see them from interview stage to now, we have a really good bond. It’s all a part of building that engagement with people on site. We want people to get involved. We want to aid them in their continuous development, any ideas they bring to the table are always welcomed.
Having faith in Primark
The very first week that I started here cemented it for me that this is really where I want to be. We did a store visit, went to other depots, visited Magna Park and went to Thrapston too. To me, walking back into the warehouse, gave me a great feeling. I knew I’d made the right decision. By the end of that first week, they'd invested so much time in us as Managers, we had no doubt that they cared. It made such a difference.
