I always knew I’d leave my home town eventually to explore further afield.

If you’d have told me two years ago I’d be living and working in Dublin, I’d have never believed you. But I live for new experiences and Primark is always delivering them. Dublin is a great city and it’s given me amazing opportunities to spread my wings. That’s why after moving here in September 2018, I’ve stayed put ever since!
Striking the right balance
I used to work in Reading in our UK head office. Having not gone to university I was excited about the opportunity to move to Ireland. The relocation team were great and gave me all the support I needed. They helped me set up flat viewings, bank accounts, national insurance. I couldn’t have done it without them. But, I’ve settled right in and still visit my friends and family in England every four to six weeks. The ‘Your Day, Your Way’ work scheme means I can plan my working day however is best for me, so it’s really easy to book my weekend flights home.
Stepping up
I work in Men’s Accessories. Since being promoted to Assistant Buyer, I split my time between encouraging my trainee to think on their feet and approving the right season samples to run with. It’s fast-paced, never repetitive and the main thing is it’s very creative. Our meetings are fun because we look strategically at the bigger picture of our campaigns. I enjoy thinking about our partner brand designs, getting CAD drawings worked up and tweaking the colour combos. We spark off a lot of fresh ideas as a team.
Being good to each other
Primark gives you plenty of chances to apply your talent. My line manager lets me crack on and bring new ideas to the table because she trusts me. She could run with her own ideas, but she’s seen my previous successes and encourages me to drive my own projects. One which I’m really proud of is achieving the highest bag sales record in the company’s history. Plus, the support from the whole team is phenomenal. We all strive for positive energy. We chat at the weekends and we’re honestly more like a family!
Approach everything head-on with a positive, can-do attitude.
Other reasons to join
Your experience at Primark is about so much more than your job. It’s also about our people and our culture. Our beliefs as a business and our aims for the future. It’s about all the exciting, empowering, amazing things that make us who we are – and you who you are.
I did a degree in Fashion Marketing Management before getting into Visual Merchandising at Primark.
