Meet Andrew. Team Manager.

Islip Warehouse

I started here as a Warehouse Colleague in July 2016, now I’m a Team Manager. By learning the system and quickly getting to know my colleagues, I’ve been able to progress really quickly, building my communication skills and taking that next step.

Moving up

To be able to move up, I did a lot of shadowing of the other Managers. We’ve got management courses that we’re going to go on as well, which will help me develop even further. Before Primark, I worked as an Inventory Coordinator. And although I wasn’t doing the same job when I joined Primark, I knew I’d be able to progress quickly and fit in well

As the Islip site develops, you can see it getting more structure. And I’ve had a big part in those changes. When I arrived in dispatch, I was one of the first ones here. I helped mould the way my department was run and organised how we worked.

Embracing challenges

Every day there are new challenges. For me, it’s a great way to test myself and to continue learning. I’m constantly problem solving and getting into the details of my work. On an average day, it's a lot to do with planning and making sure the productivities are correct. I find out what we're capable of doing that particular day and with the amount of staff we've got, and go from there. It’s about balancing each aspect, it's very interesting.

The perfect balance

We all have great relationships with each other. We have a good time while we work and I love coming to work every day. The highlight so far was at the very start. It was the best time to build friendships with each other, because everyone's in the same boat. That probably stands out for me, meeting new people. And we have plenty of flexibility to socialise outside of work too. With my shifts, it’s easier to plan work around social activities. I have most of my weekends off and it’s a great balance for me.

You want to come to work every day.

Other reasons to join

Your experience at Primark is about so much more than your job. It’s also about our people and our culture. Our beliefs as a business and our aims for the future. It’s about all the exciting, empowering, amazing things that make us who we are – and you who you are.

I'm one of the Shift Managers on a rotating day shift. I directly manage nine Team Managers and anything upwards of 150 colleagues.
