Meet Ashma. P&C Assistant.

I joined Primark as a summer temp last year but progressed to full time very quickly after. I spent 8 months on the shop floor but then my manager saw more potential in me and offered me a role in the cash office. I worked there for a month and a half before applying to a vacancy in HR, which is where I am today.

Carve your path

I never thought I’d end up in the cash office or operations. This is what has been so amazing about my experience with Primark. The opportunities just keep coming and they’re yours for the taking. I myself progressed through 3 very different jobs over the course of a year. Now I couldn’t be happier working in People & Culture (P&C). I’ve had the chance to really prove myself here and win the trust of my colleagues: something that’s quite important for my role.

No typical day

A lot of what I do involves dealing with colleagues. There are systems that need updating and it’s my job to stay on top of that and keep managers informed. There’s a lot of responsibility involved, but my experiences at Primark prepared me for it. When I was working in the cash office, for example, I dealt with a lot of customers looking for their lost property. That was quite surprising and unexpected. And starting out as a retail assistant taught me the values of patience and listening properly. In fact, I picked up a lot of knowledge about the business, which gave me the confidence and ability to move between departments, and progress.

Why I love it

It’s the environment and the way the business treats its colleagues. There’s nothing quite like it. Everyone is seen as an individual, unique and diverse. And no matter what your lifestyle or circumstances, you’ll get to work the hours that suit you. I love working with everyone here, but I also love that I get to look after them too.

Primark’s flexibility has helped me to experience a variety of roles and helped me to progress in my career.

Other reasons to join

Your experience at Primark is about so much more than your job. It’s also about our people and our culture. Our beliefs as a business and our aims for the future. It’s about all the exciting, empowering, amazing things that make us who we are – and you who you are.

Ollie attended the Fashion Retail Academy in London. Everything he learned came together when he took a Primark internship. And he hasn’t looked back.
