Meet Bríd. Assistant Technologist.

I studied Fashion Design at college. For some, that means sketching designs. Which is partly true, but I also drafted patterns and garments. After completing 6 months of work experience in New York I realised that I was really interested in garment technology. It’s how I get to combine the creative with the practical and commercial. Primark, being such a global, fast-paced business, is the ideal place for that.

From suppliers to fit models

A lot of what I do involves working with suppliers. I could be helping them understand our standards and performance requirements or working with existing ones to manage the production process. Regular communication is key to ironing out any production issues that might come up. Then there are the fit sessions with live fit models and time spent analysing development samples.

A special place to work

Primark is a really open environment with a flat structure and approachable people. Everyone works hard. That’s one thing we all have in common. Add to that the pace of change and potential for growth and you’ve got one super exciting place to work.

So what does it take?

Be open to the new and be excited by it. You’ll need to be able to pre-empt any challenges and react quickly to them. This is a fast-paced environment within a big team. You’ll be involved in everything from performance testing materials to looking at zips. We sit at the value end of the market, so cost efficiency coupled with quality is vital to our success. A healthy curiosity and a desire to push ideas in order to achieve that will go a long way. Although a little prior knowledge of fabrics would be useful, Primark is not the sort of place to put barriers between you and your dreams. Just come with the right attitude and desire to learn and you’ll fly.

Having an appreciation of the commercial side of the business and understanding the impact of what you do is really important.

Other reasons to join

Your experience at Primark is about so much more than your job. It’s also about our people and our culture. Our beliefs as a business and our aims for the future. It’s about all the exciting, empowering, amazing things that make us who we are – and you who you are.

Ollie attended the Fashion Retail Academy in London. Everything he learned came together when he took a Primark internship. And he hasn’t looked back.
