Ollie attended the Fashion Retail Academy in London. Everything he learned came together when he took a Primark internship. And he hasn’t looked back.

I work on Ladies Footwear and my role revolves around planning, forecasting and trading my sections. Primarily to ensure we have enough of the right stock package and levels throughout the year. I have to understand in depth, the volume, profile and trading life of the stock package. That takes a lot of teamwork and collaboration with Buyers, who we also range build with; right now, it’s autumn slippers.
Heaps of information
Essentially, we get heaps of information from lots of different people. And it is our job to process it, digest it and make use of it. We have to make quick, informed decisions based on data such as trend research, new store openings, where the markets are going. We’re a close team that often feels like a real community. It’s nice to have different perspectives to bounce ideas from. That’s especially true of the Buying team, who we get along very well with.
Little wins
It’s the little everyday wins that make everything so worthwhile. It’s great when the numbers you look at all day, translate into something real. Like the next best-selling product. When you’re part of such a fun, collaborative team, it makes it all the more satisfying. It’s a real step up working here in terms of responsibility. I already feel like I own my section, and that’s a really motivating and empowering thing. There’s always something to sink your teeth into, something to push you, in a good way.
Location, location
I was living and working in London before and one of the things that sold me on the move to Dublin was just how easy the team made the whole relocation process for me. All the information was laid out really clearly, including advice on the best areas to live. It made me feel really reassured and supported. Knowing that I was in good hands made me feel confident that this was a place that would take my progression and ambitions seriously.
There’s a lot of information which you need to digest, process and apply quite quickly given that we’re such a fast-paced business.
