I’ve worked in Primark for 7 years and loved it from the get go. There’s an energy and innovation that you feel from the moment you walk in the door. I don’t have a background in fashion, but you don’t really need one to thrive. Just a passion for it.
No 9-5 here
The beauty of buying is that there is no typical day. From meeting suppliers to range-building meetings with designers, you’re pretty much doing something different all the time. I find myself identifying new trends, extracting information from the different regions, travelling the world on sourcing trips and energising existing ranges for the next season. But what’s the one thing all of these have in common? We do them as part of a team.
Building foundations
You own your development here. But Primark facilitates it. It gives you the tools and opportunities to reach out to people. There’s so much knowledge and talent to tap into. For me, that’s how I’ve managed to grow in my time here. Whenever it’s been time for me take that next step, I’ve been ready because I’ve already laid the proper foundations. Flexible working helps too. When you can manage your own time with the support of the company, it creates a culture where anything is possible. That makes a big difference.
An exciting future
I’m part of the Homewares team, an area of huge focus for us right now. It’s a really exciting department to work for because we’re constantly creating new products for it. I feel like I’m part of a team that’s opening up new possibilities and opportunities for the rest of us at Primark. It’s just such an exciting journey to be on and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
There’s an energy and sense of innovation here that you just feel straight away.
