Meet Sabrina. Trainee Designer.

I initially started out as a full-time freelancer, having left my previous job to take up the opportunity. It was a bit of a gamble as the retail industry is challenging at the best of times. But that’s how much I wanted to work at Primark. It’s an Irish company that I grew up with, and it’s now one of the biggest global retailers. I was thrilled when I was then made permanent.

The design process

Almost everything in Primark is a collaboration. Different departments are constantly working together to develop new ranges and products. Sustainability and Well Being are important topics at the moments, and I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside an amazing team in the launch of our newest Wellness campaign. I’ve also worked on sell out lines such as our Family Pyjamas and Disney Twinning, which are always great fun to do! It’s a really proud moment when you see your designs being worn by customers. For me, it’s a feeling that I don’t think will ever get old!

Hands on

My role is very versatile, every day is different, and every day brings with it a new challenge. A lot of our artwork is done in-house by the Design team. I produce a lot of graphics and print patterns so knowledge and use of the Adobe Creative suite is a huge part of the everyday job. A creative eye and natural passion for the product area is also a huge advantage! And being motivated and enthusiastic helps to keep the energy levels up!

Taking risks

As I mentioned earlier, I took a bit of a risk coming to work here, but it’s one that has really paid off. Getting this job has easily been one of my proudest moments. Primark aren’t afraid of taking risks either, which in an industry like ours, is quite amazing. It’s why it makes it a really exciting company to work for.

Other reasons to join

Your experience at Primark is about so much more than your job. It’s also about our people and our culture. Our beliefs as a business and our aims for the future. It’s about all the exciting, empowering, amazing things that make us who we are – and you who you are.

Ollie attended the Fashion Retail Academy in London. Everything he learned came together when he took a Primark internship. And he hasn’t looked back.
