Financial Accountant - Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”)
(12month Fixed Term Contract)

As a Financial Accountant – ESG, you will be responsible for supporting the ESG Finance team. You will support with the Finance review and management of the external reporting process for Primark ESG. You will also support with the non-financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders.

This role also requires strong co-ordination and communication skills, as the successful candidate will proactively engage with various stakeholders including Primark Cares, Legal, Compliance, Communications and ABF. What You’ll Do:
In your role, you’ll collaborate with different people across a range of skillsets. Here is a flavour of your day to day:
  • Governance and Compliance: Primark places significant emphasis on governance and compliance in its ESG reporting. As part of this responsibility, you’ll support various Primark teams to ensure that both external and internal reporting of metrics and KPIs adhere to defined levels of governance. This alignment extends to the Primark Cares program and the ABF ESG framework. By following these guidelines, Primark aims to maintain transparency, accountability, and ethical practices in its reporting.
  • Annual ESG Reporting: Your role involves taking ownership of key components within the annual ESG reporting process to ABF (Associated British Foods). This includes compiling relevant data, analysing trends, and presenting a comprehensive overview of Primark’s environmental, social, and governance performance. By doing so, you contribute to the company’s commitment to responsible business practices.
  • Technical Papers and Briefing Documents: To ensure consistency and accuracy, you’ll prepare technical papers and internal briefing documents. These documents serve as essential references for stakeholders, providing insights into Primark’s ESG initiatives, progress, and challenges. Staying up to date with emerging regulations and industry best practices is crucial to maintaining the quality of these materials.
  • Data Accuracy and Review: Accuracy is paramount when dealing with ESG data. You’ll develop work papers and workbooks, implementing robust controls to verify the accuracy of reported data points. Collaborating with external auditors, you’ll review Primark’s external ESG reporting, ensuring alignment with established standards. Rigorous data validation contributes to the credibility of Primark’s sustainability claims.
  • Process Documentation and Innovation: Documenting end-to-end processes and methodologies for ESG reporting is essential. By capturing these workflows, you create a reference guide for future reporting cycles. Additionally, you’ll explore innovative ways to enhance efficiency in tracking and reporting ESG-related data, KPIs, and metrics. Collaborating with other teams—such as Technology, Finance Transformation, Legal, and Communications—you’ll drive continuous improvement and contribute to Primark’s overall sustainability journey.

What You’ll Bring
Here at Primark, we want everyone to feel valued – so please bring your authentic self to work, of course with some other key experience and abilities for this role in particular:
  • Professional Experience and Qualifications: You have over a year of experience as an accounting professional, holding qualifications such as ACA, ACCA, or CPA. Your expertise spans solid accounting practices, financial reporting, and understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Effective Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Your strong written and verbal communication skills allow you to engage effectively with colleagues at all levels within the organization. Additionally, your ability to influence others is an asset in collaborative work environments.
  • Technical Proficiency: You possess in-depth knowledge and practical experience with Oracle Financials and Excel. This technical expertise enables you to manage financial data efficiently and accurately.
  • Proactive Approach and Organizational Skills: You actively seek opportunities to improve processes and challenge existing procedures to achieve best practices. Your exceptional planning and organizational abilities allow you to multitask, prioritize work, and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Leadership and Integrity: As a self-starter, you demonstrate results-oriented leadership, closing activities in a structured manner. Your attention to detail and analytical skills enables you to handle large volumes of data while maintaining a higher-level overview. You operate with integrity, diplomacy, and professionalism, building effective working relationships across the organization. Additionally, your persuasive presentation skills allow you to convey complex information clearly to various stakeholders.
