My Primark Story: Gustava, Retail Assistant
Hi, I’m Gustava and I’ve been a Retail Assistant at Primark Wembley for eight years (and counting!). Outside of work, I enjoy watching movies, listening to music, reading, and spending time with friends – whether that’s social events or just having a great time together.
My Career Journey
Before joining Primark, my career journey was quite varied. After completing my education in Ghana, I trained as a flight attendant and also worked as a radio broadcast journalist. I later gained experience in an insurance brokerage firm before moving to the UK, where I joined Primark as a Retail Assistant at Wembley.
I originally started as a till operative, but over time I’ve had the opportunity to work across multiple departments. This has helped me develop a strong understanding of store operations and build a diverse skill set.
About My Role
I primarily work on the tills as a cashpoint operative. My role is all about making sure customers leave the store having had a positive and enjoyable shopping experience.
As the final touchpoint before they leave, I take pride in ensuring every interaction is friendly, efficient, and memorable.
The best part of my job is seeing customers leave happy and satisfied. Knowing I’ve helped create a great experience – and that they’re already looking forward to coming back – is incredibly rewarding.
Opportunities at Primark
Without a doubt, my favourite thing about working at Primark has been going on bolsters. Bolster is where colleagues from established stores get the opportunity to support the opening, relocation, or refit of stores. I’ve had a the pleasure of being on 17 bolsters since 2019!
I love travelling, meeting new people, and building connections – and these experiences have allowed me to do just that.
During a bolster, you work in a different location for a period of time, helping set up the store and supporting new colleagues. We’re paired with new team members as “bolster buddies,” where we help guide and train them so they feel confident in their roles.
While on bolster, I’ve visited places I might never have gone to otherwise and met amazing colleagues along the way. Many of us have built strong friendships and have stayed in touch and spend time together outside of work.
When I’m on a bolster, it doesn’t feel like work – It feels like I’m doing something I genuinely enjoy.
