Tying the bow on our 2025 festive collection
We caught up with Martin to learn more about how our 2025 festive homeware collection went from concept to landing in our stores.
My name is Martin McBride and I’m the designer across soft goods, bathroom, storage and lighting. I’ve been with Primark for 3 years now and I’m loving every minute of my time on the homeware team.
Give us an insight into your process when designing a home collection
It always starts with understanding who our customer is and what they love. We thoroughly research across homeware and fashion trends, bringing together elements from interiors trends as well as print and colour from fashion to create truly unique Primark collections that are exciting and fashion-forward.
As a team, we delve into social media to see what customers and the wider world are talking about. We also look at various forecast websites for trend and innovation within the market to ensure we offer something new and exciting each season. Research often begins a year in advance, giving us time to build and develop ranges as a team that feel cohesive and exciting for our customer.
What was the goal this year when designing our Christmas collections?
We really wanted to create a timeless collection that inspires our customer to reinvent their festive decoration for the season. Our aim was to offer a cohesive and exciting range that would bring festive cheer to any home. We considered every detail the customer would need to create a statement Christmas décor at the best possible value - offering them beautiful prints and classic colours across soft goods, kitchen and decor, so they can carry this beautiful collection across their table to their tree, and onto the sofa and into bedroom.
Tell us about the festive bow collection
Bows have been such a key icon across fashion and interiors for a few seasons now, and we really wanted to bring this fashion element into our festive range. The timeless joy of wrapping presents for loved ones inspired us - the beautiful bow and ribbon detail really encapsulate the essence of bringing people together in celebration and thoughtful gift giving. We aimed to instil that true nature of Christmas togetherness into our range, with the trailing ribbon and bows that almost wrap your bed or tabletop presentation to create the perfect Christmas present with a beautiful bow on top.
Why do you think customers are loving it so much?
I think it’s such an adorable and nostalgic design that really showcases Christmas with the beautiful mix of red and white. The bow is a key seasonal icon, and our fashion-focused customer loves it. Mixing the trailing ribbon with the beautiful bows in that elegant watercolour painting really creates a statement that is unique to our collection.
Tell the readers your top tip for giving festive decorations that professional finishing touch
For me, it's all about layering - mixing different textures across your tablescape or bedroom. Pair our beautiful, brushed cotton bedding with a super soft blanket-stitch throw with a selection of fur and embroidered cushions to create the perfect Christmas bed.
What’s your favourite thing about working on the home team?
It’s the joy of collaborating with the team - bringing ideas together and developing them into something special. Our ranges are born from creative range building across a dedicated and talented team.
