More than an internship: developing yourself at Primark
From Retail Assistant to Internal Communications Intern at Head Office. During my internship at Primark, I had the chance to truly make an impact.
My name is Mary Ann Roopnarine and besides my work at Primark, I study International Communication Management at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. During my internship at the headquarters in Rotterdam, I worked on projects related to internal communication and employee engagement.
One of my main projects was increasing the use of our internal communications app. To better understand what colleagues need, I visited various stores and spoke with teams. These insights contributed, among other things, to the integration of the Cobra app, making it easier for colleagues to access things like their pay slips.
What made my internship especially valuable was the freedom to contribute my own ideas and collaborate with colleagues from different departments. Together, we set up several pilots that helped more colleagues actively use the app.
At Primark, I developed myself both personally and professionally. I learned to take initiative, work in a results-oriented way, and approach challenges with confidence.
My advice to future interns? Stay curious, seize opportunities, and dare to take initiative - then you will get the most out of your internship.
