Miah’s Career Journey in Product Technology at Primark
Miah shares how her placement year led to a career in Product Technology at Primark, and what she enjoys about working in the fast-paced world of Quality.
Hi, I’m Miah and I work as a Trainee Product Technologist on the Quality team at Primark. Outside of work, I love spending time with my friends, whether that’s meeting up, heading to the beach or going to the cinema.
My role as Trainee Product Technologist is all about making sure the products that arrive in our stores meet Primark’s standards. I work closely with Buyers and suppliers to help resolve any quality issues in the products developed, while also making sure products meet the legal standards needed for testing and packaging. At the heart of it, it’s about helping deliver the best possible experience for our customers.
How I started my career in Product Technology at Primark
Before joining Primark, I studied Fine Art at university and worked as a bar supervisor in a nightclub, where I led a team of six people. That experience helped me build confidence, leadership skills and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment – all things that have been really valuable in my career so far.
My Primark journey started with a placement year as a Trainee Product Technologist on Menswear, which gave me a real insight into the business and confirmed that this was somewhere I wanted to come back to. After finishing university, I returned to Primark and spent eight months working in the same role on Footwear before moving into Home, where I’ve been covering four categories.
Moving across different areas has helped me build my product knowledge and gain experience across apparel, footwear and non-apparel. It’s shown me how much opportunity there is to move around, learn new things and develop different skills within the business.
What it’s like working in Product Technology at Primark
One of my favourite things about working in Product Technology is the variety. No two days or weeks look the same, and there’s always a new challenge to take on. Being in Quality means I get to work on lots of different things, from projects to floor walks, so there’s always something to learn and get involved in.
I also didn’t expect Primark to be as fast-paced as it is. From the beginning, I realised how quickly things move here, but that’s also what makes it exciting. There are so many opportunities for growth, and I’ve been able to develop my skills in a short space of time through great training sessions and hands-on experience.

After doing my placement here, it was always my goal to come back. The people are friendly, supportive and always willing to help each other, which makes such a difference.
For me, Primark is a place where you can keep learning, try new things and grow your confidence. My journey so far has given me the chance to work across different product areas, build my knowledge and see just how many opportunities are available if you’re open to them.
